The Value of the Scriptures.

Today my little granddaughter Rebekah asked me for ideas for her talk in Sacrament Meeting tomorrow on the scriptures.
What are the scriptures?
They are the word of God. The scriptures are revelations from God to his prophets, both ancient and modern.
General Conference talks from the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles are scripture.
Our patriarchal blessings are our personal scripture because they are given through revelation from God.
What are Revelations?
God revealing or giving us to know, His word for us through the prophets (or even our stake patriarch.)
Articles of Faith 8 and 9 states that:
"8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God."
What are the Standard Works?
They are the volumes of scripture officially accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price.
The value of the scriptures. (What the iron rod represents in Lehi's vision.)
In Lehi's vision there is an iron rod. The iron rod represents the word of God. Those who held to that rod reached the tree of life and found joy and happiness. Others wandered off into the mists of darkness and were lost. (1 Nephi 15.) You can see from this scripture how important the scriptures are to us.
In Psalms 19:7: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet." the scriptures show us the pathway to God.
Alma 17:2 "and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently."
The commandment to search the scriptures.
2 Ne. 31:20 "Press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ."
John 5:39: "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."
How the scriptures can help us in our daily lives.
We come to know the Lord from reading the scriptures. The Holy Ghost can testify to us of their truthfulness when we read them.
What the scriptures can mean to you personally.
We can find answers to our prayers as we read the scriptures, especially if we pray for understanding as we read them.
Developing the habit of reading the scriptures.
I find morning is best. I like to read them while eating breakfast - feeding my spirit as I feed my body.
